Elevated values of >800 pg/mL are consistent with Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) in women either in the context of cystic lung disease on HRCT or Tuberous Sclerosis Complex.

Establishment of ranges in described in Young et al. Chest 2010; 138: 674-681.

Note that a normal serum VEGF-D level does not exclude the diagnosis of LAM.

Receiving Instructions

Allow sample to clot fully. Centrifuge sample and transfer serum to a separate plastic (polypropylene) vial within 2 hours of collection. Freeze serum at -20°C.

  • Ship samples frozen Monday through Thursday only with a completed Cincinnati Children's TTDSL requisition via FedEx Priority Overnight. Include sufficient dry ice to ensure that samples remain frozen during transport.

Stability: Frozen: Required; Ambient: 24 hours; Refrigerated: Unacceptable.

Unacceptable Conditions: Whole blood not separated within 2 hours of collection, refrigerated sample, sample received thawed, serum stored in a polystyrene tube.
