VEGF-D Quantitation (Sendout) [For diagnosis of LAM]

Useful For: Diagnosing lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM).

Order Alert 02/07/2025: Turnaround times will be extended due to a previous downtime at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Laboratory. New orders are currently being accepted, but results will take longer than the stated 3 week TAT to complete.

Elevated values of >800 pg/mL are consistent with Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) in women either in the context of cystic lung disease on HRCT or Tuberous Sclerosis Complex.

Establishment of ranges in described in Young et al. Chest 2010; 138: 674-681.

Note that a normal serum VEGF-D level does not exclude the diagnosis of LAM.

Allow sample to clot fully. Centrifuge sample and transfer serum to a separate plastic (polypropylene) vial within 2 hours of collection. Freeze serum at -20°C.

Stability: Frozen: Required; Ambient: 24 hours; Refrigerated: Unacceptable.

Unacceptable Conditions: Whole blood not separated within 2 hours of collection, refrigerated sample, sample received thawed, serum stored in a polystyrene tube.
