Indications: Solid Organ Transplant

Test Information: A charge is assessed whenever lymphocytes are processed and stored but no testing is performed.

Ordering Note: This test is for lymphocyte storage only. For serum storage, refer to Specimen Storage, Serum (Sendout) [RPSS].

Handling Instructions

Outside Laboratories:

  • Store samples at ambient temperature and expedite transport to the lab. Samples must be received by Bloodworks Northwest within 72 hours of collection (allow for transit time from UW-MT to Bloodworks).
  • A completed Bloodworks Northwest Immunogenetics/HLA Requisition must accompany all orders. In the Billing section, indicate "Bill to UWMC DLMP."

Stability: Ambient (Required): 72 hours; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: Unacceptable.

Processing

Receiving Instructions

Store and transport whole blood samples at ambient temperature.

  • Send sample(s) with a copy of the Bloodworks Northwest HLA Requisition or the EPIC requisition (must clearly indicate the Bloodworks NW test to be performed).
  • Package sample(s) with the associated requisition in a biohazard bag (one patient per bag).
    • Orders received with multiple patient samples/requisitions in the same biohazard bag will be rejected by Bloodworks NW.
  • Send routine samples via scheduled UW DLMP Courier or Delivery Express shipments.
  • Samples must be received by Bloodworks within 72 hours of collection.
    • Contact Bloodworks HLA Lab at 206-689-6580 for samples past the stated stability limit of 72 hours. Samples may be accepted up to five days after collection.
  • UW-MT: Samples are sent by SPS/Cross Hospital.
  • HMC: Store samples in the room temp "H2PSBC" storage bin while awaiting shipment. Samples are sent by HMC Sendouts.
