Description

Ordering Recommendation: Order before initiating treatment with NS5A inhibitors. Do not order prior to molecular confirmation of positive hepatitis C virus (HCV) screen and confirmation of genotype 1a or 1b. This test may be unsuccessful if the HCV RNA viral load is less than log 3.4 or 2500 IU/mL.

Ordering Note: This assay detects resistance-associated variants in NS5A codons 20-101 for HCV genotypes 1a and 1b only. For HCV Genotype 3 NS5A Drug Resistance testing, refer to separate entry #911, Hepatitis C Viral RNA Genotype 3 NS5a Drug Resistance.

Handling Instructions

Outside Laboratories: Centrifuge sample and transfer plasma or serum to a separate plastic vial within 2 hours of collection. Freeze sample at -20°C while awaiting shipment. Transport on dry ice.

Stability: Frozen (preferred): 4 months; Refrigerated: 72 hours; Ambient: Unacceptable.

Unacceptable Conditions: Specimens collected in heparin anticoagulant.
